Wow, it was a busy week! Packer parties (I don’t want to talk about it 🙁 ), Tae Kwon Do, Brazilian Ju Jitsu, and Yoga-Meditation classes, Xmas Parties (yes, we do that here, because winter never leaves so why should Santa), and bowling leagues. I feel like I lost time! Ever had those kind of weeks?
Amongst all the crazy, I did get to see the movie, Gone Girl. I read the book by bestselling author, Gillian Flynn, awhile back and I was leery of whether I would like it, but it really lived up to the book (as much as a movie can, at least), not to mention the added bonus of seeing Ben Affleck’s fun pack! The demented twists and turns were fantastic, and even if you didn’t read the book, this movie would make an impact on your psyche.
I also downloaded and started reading, Burned by Karen Marie Moning, one of my favorite authors of all time. Burned is the next book in the Fever Series, an Urban Fantasy series, and while its been a long, long time since the last installment, I was very eager to dive back in to this world. So far, I’m not disappointed!
These two books got me thinking about how much I appreciate the creativity that goes into writing. These women have fantastic imaginations and the writing chops to prove it! It amazes me really, how very unique stories can be. There are tons of books out there with the same general concepts, and while I love most of them as well, it is so refreshing to read something that is so totally out of this world, but so believable because of the way the author presents it. Every story is unique, don’t get me wrong, because every author’s voice is different, regardless of the generality of the story, but when you read that one where you have absolutely no idea where the author is taking you, it’s pretty damn exciting.
I want to be that author someday when I grow up 🙂
What do you think? Do you have a book or two that just totally surprised you and took you on the ride of your life?
